Malaria is one of more frequent infectious disease that is transmitted by mosquitoes. By drinking human blood they enter parasite that infects red blood cells. To enter and infect red blood cells, parasite named Plasmodium vivax uses protein Duffy, situated on cells surface. But some people lack this protein, making parasite unable to infect them and they don’t develop symptoms of malaria. Expressing or non-expressing Duffy protein is connected with SNP marker in gene promoter. C nucleotide can be replaced with T nucleotide and people with this kind of form are resistant to malaria caused by P. vivax.
