Genetic testing for depression
Depression is a chronic mental disease with long-term feelings of helplessness, fear, sadness and despair. Depression is one of the most common diseases in the world, affecting around 5% of all people.
Why should you have your DNA analysed for predisposition to depression?
With your genome analysis we can determine whether you have a predisposition to depression and how your body will respond to therapy with antidepressants. If any of your blood relatives suffers from depression, there is an increased chance that the disease will affect other relatives as well, for it has a strong genetic component.
How is depression prevented or treated?
Therapy for depression most often involves a combination of pharmacological treatment and psychotherapy. Medications for depression, called antidepressants, increase the concentration of certain molecules, mainly serotonin, in the brain. The analysis of your genome can indicate a predisposition to this disease in your family as well.
